1. Acceptance
By creating an Apsis account, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app. Simple as that.
These terms apply to:
- The Apsis iOS app (current and future versions)
- Any web version we launch later
- Related services (email notifications, data export, etc.)
Age requirement: You must be at least 13 years old to use Apsis. If you're under 18, get parental permission.
2. Description of Service
Apsis is a relationship maintenance app that helps you keep track of your friendships. Here's what it does:
- Circle Map: Visualizes your relationships as concentric circles
- Daily Briefing: Suggests 1-3 people to reach out to each day
- Interaction Logging: Lets you track when you last connected with someone
- Smart Nudges: Context-aware reminders to stay in touch
- Note-Taking: Space to remember details about conversations and life events
What Apsis is NOT: A social network. A messaging app. A CRM for business contacts. A substitute for actually reaching out to people.
3. User Accounts
Creating an Account
To use Apsis, you'll need to:
- Provide a valid email address
- Choose a secure password
- Give us your name and timezone
Account Security
You're responsible for:
- Keeping your password secure (don't share it)
- All activity that happens under your account
- Notifying us immediately if your account is compromised
If someone else accesses your account because you shared your password, that's on you.
One Account Per Person
Don't create multiple accounts to abuse free tier limits. If you need more contacts, upgrade to Pro. If we catch you creating dummy accounts, we'll suspend all of them.
4. Acceptable Use
You May:
- Use Apsis to track personal friendships and relationships
- Add notes about conversations and life events
- Share screenshots of your Circle Map on social media (if you want)
- Export your data at any time
You May NOT:
- Abuse the service: Spamming, scraping, reverse-engineering, or attacking the API
- Violate privacy: Uploading other people's data without consent
- Use for harassment: Stalking, threatening, or monitoring people without their knowledge
- Resell access: Creating accounts for others or selling Pro subscriptions
- Impersonate others: Pretending to be someone else
Common sense rule: If it feels sketchy, don't do it. If you wouldn't want someone else doing it to you, don't do it to them.
5. Intellectual Property
What You Own
You own:
- All the notes you write in Apsis
- Your contact data (names, interaction logs)
- Any content you create using the app
You can delete it, export it, or move to a different app anytime.
What We Own
We own:
- The Apsis app code and design
- The name "Apsis" and logo
- The Circle Map visualization concept
- All the features and interface elements
License to Us
By using Apsis, you give us permission to:
- Store your notes and data on our servers
- Display your content back to you in the app
- Use aggregate data (no personal info) to improve the service
We do NOT have permission to: Sell your notes. Share them with third parties. Use them for advertising. Publish them publicly.
6. Subscriptions & Payments
Free Tier
Apsis Free is actually free. No credit card required. You can use it forever with up to 15 contacts.
Pro Tier
When we launch Pro ($5/month), here's how it works:
- Billing: Monthly via Stripe (processed through Apple's App Store)
- Auto-renewal: Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel
- Cancellation: Cancel anytime in iOS Settings → Subscriptions
- Refunds: We offer pro-rated refunds for the first 14 days. After that, no refunds for unused time.
Price Changes
If we raise prices, we'll:
- Email you 30 days in advance
- Grandfather your current rate for 6 months
- Let you cancel before the new price kicks in
7. Data & Privacy
Our full Privacy Policy covers this in detail, but the key points:
- We never upload your contacts' phone numbers or emails
- You can export your data anytime as JSON
- You can delete your account and all data permanently
- We don't sell or share your data with third parties
If we ever change our data practices, we'll notify you and give you a chance to delete your account before the change takes effect.
8. Disclaimers
No Relationship Guarantees
Apsis is a tool to help you remember to stay in touch. It won't:
- Fix broken friendships
- Replace actual human connection
- Guarantee that people will respond to you
- Make you a better friend (that's on you)
Beta Status
Apsis is currently in beta. That means:
- Things might break occasionally
- Features may change without warning
- We're learning as we go
We'll do our best to keep the app stable, but we can't guarantee 100% uptime during beta.
"As Is" Service
Apsis is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We don't promise:
- The app will always work perfectly
- Your data will never be lost (though we back it up religiously)
- Features will never change
Use at your own risk. (That's the legal way of saying "we'll try really hard, but stuff happens.")
9. Limitation of Liability
If something goes wrong with Apsis, here's the most we'll owe you:
- Free users: $0 (you didn't pay us, so we can't refund you)
- Pro users: One month's subscription fee (the amount you actually paid)
We're NOT liable for:
- Lost relationships because the app crashed
- Missed birthdays because a notification didn't fire
- Awkwardness from reaching out at a bad time
- Indirect damages (lost time, emotional distress, etc.)
Real talk: If something breaks and we can fix it, we will. If we mess up your data, we'll restore it from backups. But we can't be held responsible for the human side of relationships — that's on you.
10. Termination
You Can Leave Anytime
Delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete Account. Your data will be permanently removed within 30 days.
We Can Suspend Accounts
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that:
- Violate these terms (abuse, harassment, etc.)
- Are used for illegal activity
- Pose a security risk to other users
If we suspend your account, we'll email you explaining why (unless it's a legal/security issue that prevents us from doing so).
What Happens to Your Data
If your account is terminated:
- You delete it: Data removed within 30 days
- We suspend it: You have 14 days to export your data before deletion
- Violation: Immediate deletion if you violated terms (stalking, harassment, etc.)
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms occasionally. When we do:
- We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top
- If the changes are significant, we'll email you
- You'll see an in-app notification highlighting what changed
If you don't agree with the new terms, you can delete your account before they take effect.
12. Disputes & Arbitration
Let's Talk First
If you have a problem with Apsis, email [email protected] and we'll work it out. Most issues can be resolved with a conversation.
Arbitration
If we can't resolve a dispute informally, we'll use binding arbitration instead of court. That means:
- No class-action lawsuits
- A neutral arbitrator decides the outcome
- Faster and cheaper than litigation
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA (where Apsis is incorporated).
